Web Proxy: IP/ISP/Location

Unread postby Nigel » Mon Jul 09, 2012 7:38 am

Hi,

anyone know of a web proxy I can use to simulate being in Eugene while I'm out and about?

I've got a couple of tasks I need to complete that I'd rather not have attached to my current location.

Hey Nigel,

Good question. It's probably going to be quite hard to find a local Eugene, Oregon proxy. If you are using Linux you could set up ssh to create a socks 5 proxy. I already host a linux shell account from my site. But yea, finding a Eugene proxy, especially a free one is not going to be easy. I might be able to set up a password protected HTTP proxy for you.

By the way business is taking off! Eugene Computer Geeks is now #1 on Google for "Computer Repair Eugene Oregon", "Computer Repair Eugene", and "Eugene Computer Repair". The tech support chat is #1 for "Free Tech Support Chat" and #1, #2, #3, #4 for "Computer Geeks Chat".

I'm also advertising on Google adwords and Yahoo/Bing/Facebook.

IF you are still up for it, I'm sure I'll have some work for you. When do you get back in town again?

I'll see if I can find more info about getting a Eugene Proxy setup for you. Hope all is well, and take care.

Hey Cameron,

I'm back on the 17th. might be taking off again to setup & attend burningman. If I do I'll be back and fourth a couple or three times.

As far as the PROXY goes, my current workaround is to have my wife use a local machine and feed her the info. If I'd thought about before hand I might have been able to configure my home router to do the job.

if you're interested in the learning experience of setting up a password protected proxy, I'm happy to try and provide the motivation.

Glad to hear business is is picking up. I'm up for anything you can throw my way, and can give you a real schedule if you need one.

Cool. I've actually set up password protected proxies before, which is a breeze with Ubuntu. (As simple as a few commands in the terminal and a quick edit of text file. Also have to forward the port through the router). But if I set anything up from home its likely going to be really slow and unreliable.

I've been using Google Calendar recently and have the Eugene Computer Geeks email integrated with Google. Maybe we could set you up as well? That way we could schedule appointments without having to call you first. Hope all is well.
