To properly burn Ubuntu to a CD or DVD from within Windows, you should have already downloaded the Ubuntu Installation ISO file from http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop. Please follow the instructions located below to burn Ubuntu to a CD/DVD from inside Windows.
If you get confused, please watch the Youtube videos located below to see an example of someone burning an Ubuntu CD using infrarecorder.
1. Download and install the free and open-source burning program "Infrarecorder".
2. Insert a blank CD or DVD into your drive. Usually an autorun box will appear, which you can ignore by selecting "Cancel" or "Do nothing".
3. Load Infrarecorder and click the "Write Image" button.
4. Select the Ubuntu installation ISO file you downloaded earlier, which is located in your default download location. (Usually in the "Downloads" folder or on the Desktop), and click "Open"
5. In the next dialog box, click "OK".
Your Ubuntu CD/DVD will now burn and once finished will be ready.
You can now boot to the CD/DVD and install Ubuntu or run it live.
To boot to the CD/DVD turn off your computer. Turn it back on and access the boot menu and then select your CD/DVD drive. Alternativly, you can go into the BIOS and change the boot order priority to have your CD/DVD drive as first on the list.

21:41:08 Geek cant miss it
21:52:07 Jonathan Did you want me to go ahead and insert my flash drive and/or cd-r into this computer?
21:52:36 Geek dont insert flash drive, just insert the cdr and close out the auto play box that pops up
21:52:43 Geek did you instal infrarecorder?
21:52:48 Jonathan Okay, one moment.
21:52:50 Jonathan Yes.
21:52:53 geek alisha1 connie quit (timeout)
21:52:58 Geek Open infrarecorder
21:53:04 Geek and click the "write image" button
21:53:05 Geek cant miss it
21:55:54 Jonathan It still says please insert a disk.
21:56:19 daniel Interesting.
21:56:43 daniel That's infrarecorder that's saying that?
21:57:02 Jonathan No, my computer is saying please insert a disk into drive d
21:57:23 Jonathan And it says that it has 0 bytes of free space.
22:23:33 Jonathan Okay, I can do that Sunday.
22:23:44 Geek ok
22:24:04 Geek Lets get you a video on youtube so you'll know for sure how to burn an iso with infrarecorder
22:24:04 Jonathan What am I needing to burn, exactly?
22:24:11 daniel Hey Jonathan - I left the remote session open just in case we wanted to try anything else but I think at this point there is nothing I can do. I'm going to disconnect unless you wanted me to do anything.
22:24:35 daniel Ok. Thanks. Sorry I wasn't more help!
22:24:43 Geek make sure to save that youtube URL
22:24:54 Geek it has instructions on how to burn an iso with infrarecorder
22:25:10 Geek Thanks Daniel. Really appreciate your help
22:28:54 Geek :-)
22:29:05 daniel Thanks. I'm currently working full time as a tech and going to school part time so unfortunately I don't have a ton of extra time for this stuff. I really do appreciate that though.
22:29:20 Jonathan Geek, when I go to a friend's house, I will need to install Infrarecorder on their computer?
22:29:33 daniel Jonathan - yes you will.
22:29:54 ant joins My room
22:30:14 daniel ^^
22:30:19 Geek unless your library has really bad security and allows users to install applications
22:30:33 Geek if they give you your own user account they MIGHT allow you to install infrarecorder
22:30:35 daniel I completely agree. It is unlikely.
22:30:40 Jonathan Okay, I will have to call around and see what my friends are doing.
23:17:07 daniel Keep the page open and you may want to have the device name handy - HT-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8163B
23:17:11 Jonathan Maybe I did something wrong.
23:17:29 daniel I've never actually used that program. You are talking about infrarecorder, right?
23:17:52 Jonathan Yes.
23:18:35 daniel I don't think you did anything wrong. Unfortunately computers get older and problems tend to manifest. It's hard to work on them in your situation when you don't have the tools that Geek or I may have access to.
23:19:28 daniel Infrarecorder is going to allow you to burn the Ubuntu ISO ("Write Image" will be part of that process) but we cannot even get there if your drive will not read/write to the CD-R
23:19:39 Jonathan The file name shows up as nothing/empty when I click Write Image, I didn't know what I was supposed to do after that.
23:20:00 daniel Hmm. I'm not too sure. You may have to check with Geek.
03:19:45 Jonathan So here's what I'm doing
03:19:59 Geek They like invade me for some reason and want to be my best friend and I just want to get home!
03:20:00 Jonathan I reinstalled infrarecorder
03:20:04 geek alisha1 i look at my self as the nerd/geek
03:20:13 Geek Its not a problem with infrarecorder
03:20:17 Geek I wish I could Teamviewer in
03:20:22 Jonathan I'm redownloading ubuntu because I think I did something wrong.
03:30:46 Geek for sure
03:30:50 Geek I can only do one at a time
03:30:56 Jonathan Because I can't even figure out how to get ubuntu and InfraRecorder working.
03:30:59 Geek it says 57 min remaining
03:31:34 Jonathan So it wouldn't help to go to a friend's house and try to burn a disc because I'm having trouble just figuring out how.
03:39:49 Geek dont extract
03:39:58 Jonathan Oh okay
03:40:00 Geek just burn it in infrarecorder
03:40:02 Geek but you cant
03:40:11 Geek so your going to have to go to a friends
